GENERAL INFORMATION
The non-profit Michael Lascaris Scholarship Trust was founded in August 1999
and is based on the Last Will and Testament of benefactor Michael Lascaris. To date,
it has awarded 3280 scholarships to Greeks from Greece, Cyprus
and Istanbul for the purpose of learning the English language. The Trust, with
headquarters in Chicago USA, intends to grant a further 120 scholarships
for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
The scholarships are only for English language instruction at all levels from Beginner
up to and including the Certificate of Proficiency (Universities of Cambridge and Michigan)
and are applicable to candidates of all ages, provided they have had their 12th birthday.
Candidates must also have Greek ancestry and be Greek Orthodox. The scholarships cover
all tuition and educational materials for one year, with the possibility of renewal
for further years for those recipients who are conscientious in their study and attendance.
The lessons take place at the Trust’s two authorized institutes, namely the Estia
Neas Smyrnis English Language School at Nea Smyrnis and the Institute for Foreign
Languages Dessy Topouzides at Voula.
